Why we build every Webworthy site on WordPress

The platform your website is built on matters more than most people realise

Your website platform is a long-term decision, not a short-term fix.

A lot of small business owners pick a platform because it looked easy to start with. That’s understandable – but it often costs them later.

Wix, Squarespace and similar website builders are designed to get you online quickly. And they do. But the same features that make them easy to start with – the drag-and-drop editors, the locked-in templates, the all-in-one subscription – are the very things that hold your business back as it grows.

WordPress powers around 43% of every website on the internet. It’s not popular by accident: it’s the most flexible, most powerful and most widely supported website platform in the world. And unlike Wix or Squarespace, your website genuinely belongs to you.

Every single Webworthy site is built on WordPress. Here’s why that matters for your business.

The advantages of WordPress for small businesses

Why it’s the right platform for your business website, whatever your niche.

You own your website.

With Wix or Squarespace, you’re renting space on their platform. If they put their prices up, change their terms or shut down, your website goes with them.

With WordPress, your website is yours. You own the code, the content and the data – full stop.

It performs better in search.

WordPress gives you full control over every SEO element – page titles, meta descriptions, schema markup, site speed, structured data. Wix and Squarespace give you a fraction of that control.

A WordPress site built properly will outrank a Wix site of the same quality almost every time.

It grows with your business.

Need a shop next year? A booking system? A members’ area? A custom integration? WordPress can do all of it – without starting again from scratch.

You build once on a solid foundation, then add to it as your business grows. That’s exactly how we approach every project.

It’s easy to update yourself.

Once your site is built, editing pages, publishing blog posts and adding new content is straightforward – no technical knowledge required. It works a lot like writing in Word.

You stay in control of your content without needing to call us every time something needs changing.

WordPress vs Wix vs Squarespace: what’s the real difference?

Wix and Squarespace are consumer products. WordPress is a professional platform. Both get you online, but only one gets you ahead.

Wix and Squarespace are excellent for getting a basic site live quickly – and if you just need something to exist, they’ll do the job. But they’re built for simplicity, not performance. The moment you want more control, better SEO, faster load times or anything beyond their built-in features, you hit a wall.

WordPress is open-source, meaning it’s free to use and not owned by any single company. There are no platform fees, no surprise price rises and no risk of the company deciding your plan no longer includes a feature you rely on. You host it where you want, build it how you want and move it if you ever need to.

The trade-off is that WordPress needs to be built properly to perform well – a badly built WordPress site is worse than a decent Wix site. That’s exactly why we exist: to give micro businesses a professionally built WordPress site without the agency price tag.

Wix and Squarespace give you a website. WordPress gives you a platform for your business.

Why the Webworthy team chose WordPress – and stuck with it.

The team behind Webworthy has been building WordPress websites for over 20 years – for clients ranging from sole traders to the NHS. We know what the platform can do.

We’ve built sites on most of the major platforms over the years. We keep coming back to WordPress because nothing else comes close when you need a site to perform: to load fast, to rank well, to convert visitors into enquiries, and to scale as the business grows.

We also build on our own bespoke WordPress theme – not an off-the-shelf template, not a page builder like Elementor. Every Webworthy site is hand-built from the ground up, which means it’s lean, fast and built exactly for the business it’s for.

No bloated plugins. No borrowed templates. No corners cut.

When you commission a Webworthy site, you’re getting the same quality of WordPress build that we deliver to enterprise clients – packaged into an affordable monthly plan that works for micro businesses.

That’s not something you’ll find from a Fiverr developer or a DIY website builder.

Already on Wix or Squarespace? We can move you across.

If your current site is on Wix or Squarespace and you’re ready for something better, we can rebuild it in WordPress – keeping everything that’s working, improving what isn’t, and giving you a platform that won’t hold you back. If you’d like to have a chat about making the switch, book a call below.

To be fair to Wix and Squarespace.

We’re not here to rubbish Wix or Squarespace. For some situations, they’re perfectly adequate. But probably not for yours.

If you need a one-page site up by tomorrow, Wix will do it. If you’re testing a business idea and want something live this week, Squarespace is fine. If you never intend to rank in search, don’t need anyone to find you and just want a digital business card, either platform will serve you.

But if you’re running a real business – one where your website should be generating enquiries, building trust with potential clients and working harder as your business grows – then you need a platform that’s built for that.

Most of our clients come to us from Wix or Squarespace. The conversation usually goes the same way: they built something themselves a few years ago, it never really generated any work, and now they want to do it properly.

We’d rather help you do it properly from the start.
